Oral Surgery

Minor oral surgical procedures — cysts, abscesses, frenectomy and complex extractions.

A number of oral conditions require minor surgical treatment. At AK Dental & Implant Center these are carried out in a sterile environment with modern instrumentation.

Procedures we perform

  • Surgical removal of broken or complex teeth that cannot be extracted conventionally
  • Impacted wisdom tooth removal
  • Incision and drainage of dental abscesses
  • Apicoectomy — removing the root tip when infection persists after a root canal
  • Cyst enucleation in the jawbone
  • Frenectomy — releasing a tongue-tie or lip-tie affecting speech and feeding
  • Operculectomy — removing the gum flap over a wisdom tooth
  • Biopsy of suspicious ulcers or lesions
  • Pre-prosthetic surgery to prepare bone and gum for dentures

Safety and sterilisation

Every surgical instrument is sterilised in an autoclave. Needles, gloves, suction tips and gauze are single-use and opened fresh for each patient. A full medical history is taken beforehand — always disclose high blood pressure, diabetes, heart conditions, blood thinners and allergies.

When to come urgently

Rapid facial swelling, severe toothache with fever, difficulty swallowing or breathing, inability to open the mouth, or a tooth broken or knocked out by trauma — do not wait. Call 01886-995689.

Post-operative care

You receive written instructions after every procedure. In general: no rinsing for 24 hours, ice packs, soft cool food, complete the prescribed medication, and stop smoking entirely — it severely impairs healing. Attending the scheduled follow-up is essential.

Frequently Asked Questions — Oral Surgery

Is oral surgery done under general anaesthesia?

Most minor procedures are done under local anaesthesia — you stay awake but feel no pain. Very complex cases are referred for general anaesthesia in hospital.

Can I have surgery while on blood thinners?

Yes, but you must tell us in advance. Never stop the medication yourself — we coordinate with your cardiologist.

When are sutures removed?

Usually after 5–7 days. In some cases dissolvable sutures are used, which disappear on their own.
